One of the most important predictors of therapeutic success is the connection you have with your therapist. These following qualities help me establish strong connections with my clients:
I am a confident, energetic, warm, humorous and insightful therapist. Many of my clients have let me know that I have been the first therapist that they felt comfortable fully opening up to.
I have tremendous respect for and am non-judgmental of my clients. It is common to feel stuck or lacking in hope when you first meet with a therapist. By valuing my clients for their strength and resiliency I try to make our work together a context in which you can feel unstuck and hopeful.
My services are highly collaborative. I will work with you to establish specific, achievable goals for counselling, and check in with you regularly through our work together to assess the progress we are making. When you feel that it is relevant, I make sure that family members and services providers are involved in this process so as to offer the best support possible.
I have worked with adolescents and young adults in various roles for the past decade. I am extremely well informed about common issues that youth deal with in their lives through my professional experience. As a younger person myself and someone with significant work experience, I am able to connect and work well with teenagers and young adults. A number of my clients have told me that the language that I use and the perspective that I take is more validating, helpful and youth friendly then what they have experienced in previous therapy.
